Our party of four (including two children) had dinner at the Tavern on Monday for the first time. The adults chose entrees of the BOGO menu, the chicken and biscuits and turkey (think thanksgiving) dinner. Our server Lori was very nice. The decor is understatedly Amish with items you can purchase from local artisans. The building is large but quaint with the preservation of the layout providing various rooms to dine in. The owners have done a wonderful job of making you feel at home just with the food and ambience alone. We will definitely be back!

Located in the quaint town of New Wilmington, Tavern is a home cooking restaurant with a country feel. Service was incredibly fast and friendly. We had a party of 6 which was easily accommodated on a Saturday around 5pm. The food was decent. Appetizers were very small in portion size and not enough for the whole party. Sticky buns are awesome but if you want more than 1 per person, you have to pay extra. My scallops were unfortunately overdone. Husband had the Chicken and Biscuits which was good and is the #1 seller. Others at the table had steak which was tough. Overall, I think it was overpriced for the quality of food but if you go here, I would probably go for their best sellers.

Good homemade food each and every time my wife and I go here. Daily specials are very good and often it's buy one meal get the second one for half off. Almost every meal I have had tastes like a Sunday meal at your grandmothers house when we were kids. The service is by far the best in this entire area with many young kids showing a great work ethic. If you have someone visiting from out of town this place is an absolute must. The sticky buns are to die for and if you eat too many you probably will. Never had a bad meal here would highly recommend.

Really like the food here! The chicken and biscuits are excellent, they also have a few entree salads that are wonderful. You have to have the coconut cream pie... wonderful! And on Mondays... dinner are buy one get one... how can you go wrong???

Yes, get the sticky bun! It is made by the sweet goddess. I was not paying any attention to how many calories this sweet thing may contribute. The small size was perfect so you shouldn't worry if you can stop after trying one. One sticky bun comes with a dinner order anyway. I had baked cod fish and it was delicious. It's dry town, so of course the tavern has no alcoholic beverage!

Nice local place. Very quaint and nice home farm feel. I had the chicken and biscuits which was very good. The gravy of course makes the dish. Disappointed in the appetizer portions. We had a party of six and were left wanting more after ordering 2 appetizers. Zucchini strips were not good but the homemade chips were tasty. The special was the scallops and they had good flavor but were overcooked. The sticky buns they brought instead of bread were awesome but you had to pay more if you wanted a second helping. Overall I would recommend stopping here for a nice dinner if you are in the area. Stick to their popular specialties and you will be pleased.

The Tavern is my absolute go-to restaurant! Not only is it close to my home, but the meals there are just great! I've never had anything bad to say about my experiences at the Tavern. The staff is so friendly, the food is delicious, and I always leave very full. Although some prices may be a bit high, I feel it is worth the enjoyment of a home cooked meal. I try to order differently every time i go and it has always been fantastic! And can't forget their famous stickies! Would definitely recommend The Tavern on the Square to anyone near the area

Full disclosure: the owner is a friend. Thing is, I've become friends with her through my many visits to The Tavern. Not only will you get a great, home-cooked meal but you'll be treated to friendly service and a good chat if time allows. You can feel the heart of the restaurant as soon as you enter. I've never left without a smile and a feeling of refreshment. Wonderful food. Great staff. Lovely murals. Look for George Washington in a tree on the mural. This is the perfect place for a celebration, a quick meal or, for me, a monthly visit alone to recharge. Enjoy!

First let me say that the atmosphere and service were very very good. Alot of history and decorations are very pleasing to the eye. I ordered homemade potatoe chips for an appetizer. The others in my party ordered artichoke spinach dip, fried pickles and fried green beans. They were all very good. Good flavors and freshly prepared. I ordered pot roast sandwich with french fries. I thought the pot roast was very good, but it could have been a larger portion. The bread was very thick and the pot roast was a little lost in comparision. The gravy was tasty, but not hot enough for my taste. One of the girls in our group got the pierogies. I tasted one of hers and they were good. They were a little dry and they could have been more flavorful. A small sticky bun comes with every meal, and they were yummy. I would definately go back.

Don't go here if it's in the spring or summer. There's no air flow. No fans no air conditioning to speak of. Though we did ask and they said it just isn't very strong. Every table of patrons was red faced and sweaty when we walked in. We had a reservation however we were told that there were still people eating at our table so we had to wait and would be called when they were done. We were asked if we wanted to come back later. Really? Three cars of people including children. It's not an easy task. In any case we asked to be seated at the three smaller empty separated tables and they obliged not thinking that this was an option prior to our suggestion. The one highlight of the dinner was our server. She was amazing. The server or bus person helping who was a young high school girl seemed very upset to be having to work in the heat and treated us as such. It got to the point that my 6 month old got so hot I had to take him outside because he was getting over heated. so to protect him from any ill effects of the heat I missed a family dinner with everyone. Seems like a fan would be easy to plug in. I feel bad for the folks working there. Seems like they were trying to keep it going but heat and frustration just make it that much harder to give service with a smile. The food was ok. Nothing to discuss really. Their "world famous" sticky bun things are good. But nothing to write home about. If you had been to the tavern years ago before the decor went campy those were better days for this restaurant. It's not bad in the fall or winter I'm sure. Just steer clear on a warm day.

Despite growing up nearby I've only been here twice. During my most recent visit I was delightfully reminded as to why this is such a beloved place for locals and travelers alike. The menu is large and comprehensive - full of classic American down home cooking. The sticky honey buns are famous and for good reason. The chicken dishes are well done and filling. The iced tea is very flavorful too; reminds me of sun tea. One of the best things about the Tavern is their buy one get one deal on Monday evenings. The building is very old. Tale has it that the house was once part of the Underground Railroad. The shapes of the rooms have been preserved, hence allowing people to dine in completely separate spaces, which I enjoy. The decor is different among rooms but overwhelmingly country and/or patriotic. It fits in with what you tend to find in New Wilmington and Volant. The staff is friendly and down to earth. Even if you're not local you'll provably feel like it by the time you've finished your meal.

Great home cooking - loved chicken and biscuits. Sticky rolls are a must. Great selection of desserts. Recommend if you are passing through.
